Types of Sealing Faces and Connection Methods for Carbon Steel Flanges

The sealing face type for carbon steel flanges refers to the type of contact surface at the joint between the two flanges. Different types of sealing faces are used for different applications, and the most commonly used types are:

1. Flat face sealing: The sealing face is flat, and the sealing is achieved through a gasket inserted between the flanges.

2. Raised face sealing: The sealing face has a raised portion surrounding the bolt holes, and the sealing is achieved through a gasket inserted between the flanges.

3. Ring joint face sealing: The sealing face has a groove cut into it to receive a metal ring gasket. The sealing is achieved through metal-to-metal contact between the flanges and the gasket.

4. Tongue and groove face sealing: The sealing face has a tongue-like projection that fits into a corresponding groove on the mating flange. The sealing is achieved through metal-to-metal contact between the flanges.

5. Male and female face sealing: The sealing face has a protruding male feature on one flange that fits into a corresponding recess on the mating flange. The sealing is achieved through metal-to-metal contact between the flanges.

The connection methods for carbon steel flanges with different sealing face types are also different. For flat face and raised face flanges, the sealing is achieved through a gasket inserted between the flanges. For ring joint, tongue and groove, and male and female flanges, the sealing is achieved through metal-to-metal contact between the flanges. The bolt torque requirements for different connection methods and sealing face types may also vary.

In general, the selection of sealing face type and connection method for carbon steel flanges should be based on the working conditions, pressure levels, and media characteristics of the piping system.
